FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the benefits of registering with a recruitment consultancy?

It's all about access to jobs. More and more companies are using recruitment consultants like Agenda. And that means, when you register with Agenda it's far more likely that when a job that suits your needs becomes available, you'll know about it. Sometimes the jobs aren't even advertised. If we've already got the right person for the job on our books, and that could be you, there's no real need to advertise is there!

We know the companies we recruit for, in fact we've got fantastic relationships with them. So of course we can offer you advice about how to present yourself at job interviews. And if you're looking for temporary work, or already doing temporary work, chances are you don't have time to scan the job sites day in day out. You don't have to. When you're registered with Agenda you're effectively jumping the queue.

Does it cost money to register with Agenda?

No, not a cent. It's absolutely free to registers with Agenda!

If it doesn't cost anything to register with Agenda, how do you make money?

The reason it doesn't cost anything for jobseekers like you to register is because all costs are covered by the businesses who use our services. After all, finding a brilliant employee like you is worth paying for, right.

Are my personal details confidential?

Absolutely. We'll only ever give your resume or any of your personal details to potential employers with your permission. Agenda's also a member of the Recruitment & Consulting Services Association (RSCA) which has a strict code of ethics that Agenda abides by.

I know Agenda is in Melbourne, but it's a big place. Do you recruit for roles in all suburbs, interstate or internationally? The Agenda office is in South Yarra, but our clients are located all over Melbourne both in the CBD and suburbs on all sides of the Greater Melbourne area. We also recruit for companies based in New South Wales and Western Australia, so there are often interstate roles on offer too.

Does Agenda specialise in certain industries or types of profession?

Yes, we're often looking for job seekers for a range of office based roles including office support, finance, international trade, sales and marketing and Japanese speaking roles. You can find out everything you need to know on Agenda's Specialty Sectors page. (insert link to Agenda's Specialty Sectors page – candidates version where text is blue.)

How does the recruitment process work?

It's a little tricky to answer this question in the FAQ's, it's quite an in-depth process. But don't worry, we've devoted a whole page to the recruitment process, so you'll find everything you need to know there.

I'd love Agenda to help me find a job, how do I submit my resume?

You can send us your resume in three easy ways. All you need to do is reply to one of our job ads, upload it via this website right here or email it to us directly at hr@agenda.com.au. It's best to make sure it's a Word document, we've found a lot of our clients prefer that format.

Do I have to re-submit my resume every time I apply for a different role?

No you don't, once we've got your resume on file we'll let you know anytime a role that we think you might be right for comes up. And of course if you see something advertised that you like the sound of, by all means give us a call or shoot us an email to let us know.

My resume's changed, how do I update my details?

Resumes are always changing, so don't worry, it's easy to update your details. You can either re-submit it here, or email the latest version to hr@agenda.com.au as a Word document.

Should I send a cover letter with my resume?

Yes, you should always include a cover letter with your resume. It's your chance to tell the reader why you're interested in the role and why you're the right person for it. It's not the place to include every detail of your employment history, that's what your resume's for, so just keep it simple. If you need a little advice, check out our page about writing effective cover letters page.

My current employer doesn't know I'm looking for another job, who should I ask for a reference?

It's very common, there are lots of people just like you who're looking for a new job but don't want their boss to know. It can be tough but your best bet is to ask your manager or someone who worked with you as a supervisor. They're the ones whose feedback matters most when it comes to reference checks. It's best to avoid using someone you worked alongside or a friend as your referee, it just doesn't have the same credibility. If you're not sure, let us know. We'll be able to tell you who we need to speak to.

Can I register with more than one recruitment company?

You're free to register with as many agencies as you like, but it's in your best interests to be up front and let everyone involved know. Just make sure you're honest with us. If you know another recruitment company has already sent your resume to a client then make sure you tell us, because we can't send your resume to the same client.

Who's my employer if I'm working on a temporary assignment?

All the applicable employment benefits and entitlements like your salary, income tax deductions, superannuation and workcover are taken care of by Agenda.
